bohol

Bohol is one of the most popular and top tourist destinations in the Philippines. Their seaport is in Tagbilaran City, the capital, while their airport is located on Panglao Island, the wedding location. Their main dialect is Boholano, and most locals also speak both Filipino and English.

Major establishments can accept debit and credit cards (mostly VISA) but a lot of the small stores are still cash only. Please make sure to carry cash in small bills if possible.

A lot of hardworking locals will be assisting you during your trip like airport and ferry porters, drivers, housekeeping, food servers, etc. Kindly leave them a tip, especially when their service is satisfactory.

The island is generally safe, and the locals exemplify the world-famous Filipino hospitality. However, just like in any other foreign city, please always be mindful of your surroundings and secure your personal belongings.

HOW TO GET AROUND

· Tricycle or Motorcycle Taxi – The most common mode of transportation. Drivers will accept cash only.

· Vehicle For Rent – For driving all day and longer distances, renting a vehicle with a driver is the most convenient. Tour providers offer daily sedan, SUV and van rentals.

WHAT TO DO

Here are some of our favorite and other things to do while on the island.

· See the Chocolate Hills – Not your typical chocolates to eat but they are a sight to see.

· Go off-road on an ATV – Buckle up and see the countryside driving your own ATV or share a Buggy with a partner.

· Visit the Philippine Tarsiers – These amazing primates are endangered and can be found in Bohol.

· Hop on a Lunch River Cruise – Enjoy a Filipino buffet while cruising the Loboc River.

· Island Hopping – A Philippine Island must-do. Get on a boat, visit Balicasag and Virgin Islands and maybe see dolphins and turtles.

· Snorkel or Dive – See marine life up-close in one of the best dive spots in the Philippines.

· Relax on the beach – Need we say more.

Tours typically last for one full day. If you choose to do both land and island tours, we recommend you plan them on two separate days.

These tours can be arranged through your resort. Otherwise, here is the provider that we used when we visited in February 2023:

HOW TO GET TO PANGLAO ISLAND, BOHOL

OPTION A:

1. Take a flight to Manila, Philippines (MNL)

Please note that only Philippine Airlines offers direct flights to Manila from both Los Angeles (LAX) and New York (JFK); and only United Airlines offers direct flights to Manila from San Francisco (SFO). Connecting flights are typically less expensive with layovers in different cities in Asia like Taipei, Incheon, Tokyo, Singapore, etc.

Please also note of the time difference when booking your flights. Philippine Standard Time (PhST) is 16 hours ahead of Pacific Standard Time (PST) and is 13 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time (EST). For most connecting flights, your arrival date in Manila is two days later your departure date.

You may stay in Manila and check out the capital of the Philippines if you prefer.

2. Take a flight to Tagbilaran City, Bohol (TAG)

From Manila, direct flights to Tagbilaran are offered by Philippine Airlines and low-cost airlines like Cebu Pacific and AirAsia. The travel time is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.

If you are taking a connecting flight from Manila, we recommend you choose a layover of at least 4 hours so there is enough time for you to get through immigration, retrieve your luggage if needed, terminal transfers and security.

3. Arrive in Bohol-Panglao International Airport

Yay, you made it to Bohol!

This airport is located on Panglao Island in the province of Bohol. From the airport, we highly recommend you arrange an airport pick-up through your accommodation for your convenience.

Currently, the only international flight in this airport is via Air Busan and Jeju Air. Both airlines offer direct flights to and from Incheon, South Korea.

OPTION B:

1. Take a flight to Cebu, Philippines (CEB)

Metro Cebu is the second largest metropolitan area in the Philippines after Metro Manila. However, direct flights to Cebu from the US are currently not available. Similar to Manila, you may take a connecting flight to Cebu with layovers in different cities in Asia.

Again, please note of the time difference when booking your flights. For most connecting flights, your arrival date in Cebu is two days later your departure date.

You may also stay in Cebu and check out the oldest city in Philippines if you prefer.

2. Take a taxi or book a rideshare to Cebu Pier 1

Cebu Pier 1 is approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour away from the airport depending on traffic.

From the airport, take a taxi to Cebu Pier 1 – make sure the driver is aware that you are taking OceanJet Ferry bound for Tagbilaran.

You may also book a Grab – this is the rideshare app that is available in Cebu. Please download and set up the app prior to your travel.

3. Take a ferry to Tagbilaran via OceanJet

Visit the OceanJet website for their daily schedule and to purchase ferry tickets.

If you are coming from a flight, please make sure you take the ferry that leaves at least 4 hours after your flight arrival so there is enough time for you to get through immigration, retrieve your luggage, transfer to the pier and check-in for the ferry ride.

OceanJet recommends that you arrive at the pier an hour before the scheduled ferry departure. The travel time from Cebu to Tagbilaran via ferry is approximately 2 hours.

4. Arrive in Tagbilaran Seaport

Yay, you made it to Bohol!

The seaport is located in the city of Tagbilaran, the capital of Bohol province. It is approximately 30 minutes away from the Panglao Island city proper. From the seaport, we highly recommend you arrange a seaport pick-up through your accommodation for your convenience.

HOW TO STAY CONNECTED (MOBILE)
